Project 2: Addressing Autism- Camouflaging Research
I have continued doing some more research for my second project. Based on my previous research about Autism, I found out some interesting facts. The main fact that interested me was how there are many adults with Autism who use 'camouflaging' and copy other peoples behaviours who are not on the spectrum.
I've continued with this research and found out more facts about 'camouflaging. I've found these other facts from a different web article that's called 'The costs of camouflaging autism'.
Facts:
- A trick that someone has used to camouflage their autism is by looking between a persons eyes during conversation so it appears that they are giving them eye contact.
- Boys have been recognised with more with autism than girls.
- "Clinicians don't always think of autism when they see girls who are quiet or appear to be struggling socially."
- "Boys with autism might be overactive or appear to misbehave, girls more often seem anxious or depressed."
- "Camouflaging is the difference between how people seem in social contexts and what's happening to them on the inside."
- Camouflaging can lead to multiple consequences. Such as: feeling drained, lonely and the person struggling with their own identity.
