Rubber Stamp Activity:

Image
For this activity, I have experimented with the technique of rubber stamping. All of the illustrations that I've made are based on a Halloween theme. After making these illustrations in my sketchbook, I scanned some work onto Photoshop. The piece of work that I scanned into Photoshop is of a arm and hand with bones surrounding it. In Photoshop, I experimented with the settings by using selective colour. This allowed me to try out different colour schemes and tones. I've altered the brightness of each piece. One of the pieces shown was made by selecting the invert option.  I enjoyed this activity because it allowed me to experiment with a different medium and technique. To improve my work, I could try changing my other illustrations in Photoshop.

Animal Testing Research: Facts

Tests they do on Animals in Labs: - Workers drill holes into cats' skulls, screw metal restraint posts into their head and implant steel coils into their eyes. - One test has a capsule that has ticks inside. This capsule is strapped onto rabbits so that the ticks can feed off of them. - Because of these tests, animals can have lasting physical issues such as having weakened muscles and damaged ligaments. - Monkeys are experimented on by being trapped into chairs. Their heads are clamped into metal collars. When trapped into these chairs, they are put into cages. - In some labs, workers drop mice into a beaker of water as make them swim to avoid drowning. - Some labs make dogs breath in smoke from cigarettes for months. - Mice are cut up whilst being conscious.  - Cats are paralysed deafened and drowned. Alternatives to Animal Testing:

Animal testing Research:  I am continuing my research within animal testing and I've started to gather together some references and facts that can beneficial for my project.  As I want to raise awareness about how animal testing is still an on-going issue, I've decided to research into what the alternatives could be.  The websites that I've used for my research are from PETA and The Humane Society campaigns. The PETA website has given useful information based on how it has gone in full depth about different alternatives. The  Humane Society website has briefly gone through the same alternatives and has added a few facts based on the topic of animal testing and cosmetics. Based on using Cosmetics, the alternatives to Animal Testing are: - In Vitro Testing: This method is where researchers have made chips that contain human cells. This chip copies the functions and structures of human organs. This type of test can be used instead of relying on animals for: drug testing...

Animal Testing Research:

Image
To start off my research for my project, I've looked at how designers and illustrators have already tackled the issue of Animal Testing. Also, I've been able to see that this topic has been used I different forms such as: within magazines, on posters and within tv/social media adverts etc. I think that this research has been beneficial as I can see that there is no restriction when it comes to visually communicating a topic/ issue. To carry on my research, I will look at web articles, illustrations and other uses of visual storytelling that could be useful for my project. Therefore, all of this research can gradually help me to come up with some ideas and illustrations.  Editorial: Advertisement Poster: Advert:

Illustrators that Interest me: The AOI

Image
Yiran Xia:  I have chosen this illustrator because I find their work interesting based on the character designs, colour schemes, patterns and style. I think that the character designs are expressive and show personality. This is presented within their facial expressions, colour scheme and body language. I like the graphic design kind of style that is used and they've used that effectively so that they can add a combination of simple and detailed lines/patterns.  BICHA: I like this piece of work by BICHA because of the animal theme and how they've used a realistic style. They've made illustrations of each anima and made it into a pattern to apply onto packaging. The colour schemes are quite neutral. Even though I usually prefer bolder colour schemes, I think the colours on this packaging do work effectively.  Tania Yakunova: I've chosen this illustrator because they've experimented with the uses of illustration and ceramics. They used these two methods to try to expr...

Poetry Activity

Image
I was given the task to create a double page spread illustration that represents my chose poem. The poem that I've chosen is about an Otter attempting to catch some fish.  To start off with, I made a couple of thumbnail sketches so that I could work out the composition of the illustration and the text. Also, I tried to see which illustration would work best. Afterwards, I made an extended version of one of the thumbnails in the size of A5. For mediums, I decided to use coloured pencils and a posca pen.  I think that this piece of work is successful because I've linked my illustration to the poem and I've given the otter a personality. However, I do think that it could be improved by scanning the illustration and adding colour and text digitally.

ABC of Me Activity:

Image
For this brief, I've had to produce one inch drawings that shows an alphabet that describes myself as an Illustrator.  I've tried challenging myself by incorporating image and text in a small space. I've worked inside and outside of the one inch boxes so that the design is unique.  For this activity, I started by drawing out sketches in pencil, then I went over the illustrations in fine liner.  I think that my piece of work is successful because I've used a combination of symbols, typography and pattern.  To improve this piece of work, I think that I could try applying colour to the designs by using Photoshop. Also, I think that this piece could be improved by experimenting with a different medium as I stayed in my comfort zone by using fine liner.
